Chris Cole

I joined BDO in December 2023 after 19 years at a Big 4 firm where I lived and worked on three continents: the US, Australia and the UK. Whilst I began my career in Denver, I now call the UK 'home'. I have the rare combination of having both US and UK accounting qualifications and specialise in medium and large UK audited entities with a US listing or US parent, particularly given the deep technical understanding needed to execute ICOFR audits to PCAOB standards. I also have deep experience in UK statutory audit work where there are no US requirements at all.

I have breadth of experience leading both medium and large audits from £10m to £22b in a wide range of industries and many with a complex international footprint, particularly in manufacturing and mining.

I pride myself on having open and transparent communication with key senior management and audit committees on crucial accounting, internal control, and reporting issues. I also am extremely focused on coaching my team and developing the potential of junior team members.

Since 2018 I have been subject to five full audit file quality reviews, one by the PCAOB, one by the AQR and three internal reviews. High ratings were received on all engagements.

I have extensive experience of working with large diverse groups going through change and transformation and have relevant experience of transitions from Big 4 firms.

I completed a 2.5 year secondment in US Capital Markets, specialising in US GAAP, PCAOB audits, and SEC reporting requirements. My responsibilities included leading the review of offering documents, financial statements, and comfort letters for ‘exempt’ and SEC registered offerings of debt and equity securities.

I actively promote inclusion and diversity and founded an innovative "Our Perspectives" series on diversity and inclusion related topics. I was nominated for a British Diversity Award for my efforts.

Outside of work I spend my time travelling the UK and other countries, running, doing yoga, and chasing around after my three sons.
