BDO advised the shareholders of Omlet Limited on the sale of a minority stake for £33m to Piper Private Equity.
Omlet is a fast growing, design-led, pet accessories brand sold exclusively online, with the aim of becoming the number one D2C premium pet product brand globally. It was founded in 2004 selling innovative award-winning chicken coops, and has evolved to now cover a number of core pet categories including dogs, cats and small animals. With sales currently at c.£40 million, Omlet is well-placed to capitalise on a number of key consumer trends that have been driving growth in the £250 billion global pet sector. These trends have helped fuel Omlet’s growth and have enabled the business to use its bespoke e-commerce platform to reach a worldwide audience.
"It's been a great journey working with Laura, Lorna and Burhan. They said it would be fun, and wow what a ride. M&A processes are complex, with many twists and turns but the expertise, calmness and confidence of the BDO team were exactly what we needed. They always put our needs first and took great care to ensure we were fully informed throughout. They have amazing instincts and know the marketplace inside out which means you get to meet people, who you otherwise probably wouldn't even know existed. In the final stages of the process their commitment and creativity, combined with limitless positivity were essential to getting a great deal with the perfect partner for Omlet. They are a formidable team who you really want on your side, delivering above and beyond expectations and we would recommend them to anyone looking for a superb M&A advisor.”
James Tuthill, Co-Founder, Omlet
“We are delighted to have supported the Omlet team on this transaction. James, Hanns, Will and Simon have created a phenomenal pet products brand, with enormous market potential. Being part of their journey has been a real pleasure. The four founders allowed us to help them explore the right option for them, from the wide variety available given the business they had created. Bringing Piper on board to support them, whilst remaining a significant shareholder during the next phase is the perfect combination. We look forward to working with them as their journey continues."
