BDO advises on £19.5 billion of deals in 2024
Accountancy and business advisory firm, BDO LLP has announced its Deal Advisory team advised on 266 deals with a combined value of £19.5 billion in 2024.
This is an uplift in volume and value from 2023’s figures when there were 205 transactions totalling £10.5 billion. BDO has also seen an increase in private equity related transactions, which accounted for 63% of deals.
BDO’s most active sectors were technology, media & telecoms (TMT), financial services and real estate. TMT and financial services have also seen an increase in private equity interest with a 100% and a 47% uplift in deal volumes in these sectors respectively.
Real estate was the third most active sector for BDO, which saw the firm significantly outperform the market, having advised on three of the largest listed REIT combinations in 2024, reflecting nearly £9 billion of deals in these transactions alone.
Gurpal Ahluwalia, Head of Deals at BDO, said: “It’s been a robust year of performance for BDO right across the UK regions and in our sectors. We’re proud to have partnered with so many of our clients to help them achieve their ambitions. These latest results are testament to our track record and expertise of supporting private equity investors and the entrepreneurial businesses they back in BDO’s economic engine heartland.”
Looking ahead, despite lingering macroeconomic headwinds, such as persistent inflation and geopolitical uncertainties, many of our key sectors remain poised for growth and strong levels of activity. Companies are actively seeking opportunities to innovate and expand, whether that’s into new markets or geographies. We also expect to see an increase in private equity transactions as more capital is deployed and investors look to realise value from their existing portfolios.”
This news comes on the back of BDO being ranked as the number one financial due diligence provider in the UK and Ireland in Mergermarket’s Accounting League Table for 2024 and being named the most active financial adviser by Factset in 2024.
Derek Neil, partner and Head of Transaction Services at BDO, added: “In an increasingly complex world, we're proud to have earned the position of top financial due diligence provider in 2024. We’ve supported our clients to complete 266 transactions, providing FDD on 217 of these.”
This achievement reflects our clients' trust in us to help them to navigate complex decisions, as well as our talented team's ability to deliver meaningful insights. The evolving deal landscape has highlighted the importance of thoughtful and thorough due diligence, and we're proud to have played a crucial role in helping our clients to achieve their goals. Our leadership position reinforces our commitment to excellence and deep understanding of today's sophisticated M&A environment.”
